Trash System Crash

I have a post paid corporate connection. I paid my bill and received a confirmation stating the usual lines Thanks!! We confirm the receipt of your payment of --- amount and .... Just after this I received not one but three messages saying that Please pay your bill... I called up the customer support to be told that they are facing some problems with the system and I can ignore the messages If I have paid the bill . Man I was furious, I enquired "Can you please clarify what do you mean by If I PAID MY BILL when I have paid my bill and your system has confirmed that they have received the amount?" ( I have deleted that SMS , the only proof ) The executive quickly mutters something about the system is not reflecting the payment details and something more....when I asked What did you say, (the biggest mistake of my life), he goes at length to explain me his plight, how he is handling the outbursts of calls during system crashes and how he doesn't have to leak that the s...

Literary Resolution - Updated 04

Yup, me have taken up a resolution to start reading more books. Don't ask why or how or what inspired or who prompted me, coz me also don't know the real reason. Anyways, me have started to gather titles (mostly on face value and few recommended ones) which I ought to read. Please anyone dropping in do suggest titles that I should read. The list is in no particluar order. The World is Flat - Thomas Friedman - It was suggested to me by my Friends (and as you know that I will do some research) I found this review which made me decide, I should read. To kill a Mocking Bird - I used to see this one at the stores, movie section starring Gregory peck and I don't know somehow, I used to pick it up and then drop it back. Read the review ...again that convinced me read it. A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah . Its a story based on war ... about a teenager who is rescued by UNICEF. Just a glimpse of the cover and the editorial reviews here I want to read it. C...

Long lasting Friendship

Last month, I was sitting and watching kids play beneath my balcony, I heard one of them say " But you are my good friend, I know you from class 2 and she is just my friend for I know her from class 3." I wondered - Does time change or deepen friendships? I have been thinking about this for a long time now...finally decided to pen down somethings...today have been blogging for a long time now...trying to catch up on all that I have missed :D I do have a few friends whom I have known for just a few months and they have become closer than the ones whom I have known for decades. So its not true that time defines the depth of friendships. Then what defines the depth. I went back to my earlier days and tried to remember the friends I had. As I always do "No Names" or the order with which I have shared doesnt mean any ratings...BTW can you rate your friends....Another food for thought...Each one of them are special in their own way... I knew her since a long time, its...

Quite Quietness

When I enter Office around 8:15 AM (I will write in detail some day about why my bus reaches office first and that too 15 minutes earlier than others) there is pin drop silence. Its a different world itself. In those 15 minutes, I chalk out my entire days plan. (Though I don't have much work to do these days so I reflect on what I completed yesterday and what I would want to accomplish today) Then suddenly after 8:40 AM the place is buzzing with activity, people walking in exchanging pleasantries at their loudest best, the scene continues till 9:00 and then either people leave for breakfast or attend on site calls (if its a Monday the scene continues till past 9:30 AM as there are no calls to make and people have lots to discuss things done, happened, over the weekend. ) Anyways by 10:30 the calmness takes over and there is this sudden stillness in the air with only the rhythmic click and typing noises. Sometimes you even forget that there are almost 50 people sharing the floor al...

Goaled!!! The Mind Map

Image
I sat today and created mind map out of the goals - the goals of my life - what I want from my personal as well as my professional fronts. This is my first step towards taking hold of my life. The one that you see here is a simple sketch. Now that I am refining it its taking into a completely new dimension and I suddenly find that the things that I thought never matter have become the prime focus ones. This action was prompted by the questions that I keep asking myself - my self quest and the influences the books I read, the people I meet, the movies I watch...Maybe pretty soon I will also know what is my quest, how will I conquest it and what all I need to conquest it.

Reunion

I am on the seventeenth heaven....Why?? Well coz I met my friend - she has been my friend for the past 14 years...:-D We found and lost each other quite often. We studied together together in 11th and 2 th standard and then during graduation we separated as w e went to different colleges. All of a sudden we met during our PG. After completing the PG, I moved out off the city and we again lost touch. Suddenly after a couple of years, I saw one of her forwards in my mailbox with her contact details attached as the signature. I was excited to know that she was in the same city as mine. I called her up and we again found each other. We started off from where we had left. Since then, we spend nearly 5-6 hours over the phone filling each other with everything that happened in the past and is happening with us and around us. But sadly, we never met in person. We made so many plans but somehow things would come up at the last minute and ruin our plans. Finally this time we met each other tha...

"Maid in Manhattan" - Usual Mushy Stuff

I watched this movie during the weekend. And its a usual movie...more like a Bollywood Masala , where you know what the ending would be. This movie has nothing worth mentioning. Even J Lo in the movie was just like any other actress, but the Kid was cool. The best package of the movie is J Lo's son, called Ty. Apart from having an interesting name, Ty also is at his witty best. The best part is when the kid introduces himself to the Senator in the lift and at the end when he requests the senator to forgive and accept his mother back. Its good for one time watching. Watch it when you don't want to use your brains or anything but simply sit and watch something.

My Bright Home

Image
For those who know me, know that I generally am dressed up in dull colors...blue, greys, green, white...but if you enter my home, you will find a completely a contrasting colorful world welcoming you...Now why is it that ways?? ...Quest... Here's a sneak preview for you...

"Gone With the Wind"

Yesterday, while watching yet another rerun of Gone with the Wind (now that I have gifted my copy to my cousin, I spend time watching it rather than reading), I remembered the book that I had read last year, The Blue Bicycle. I just happened to pick La Bicyclette Bleue (The Blue Bicycle), a nearly 400-page best seller by French novelist Regine Deforges. The storyline is about a very head strong and passionate lady who struggles to save her family’s estate and also falls for a dashing stranger. Once you start reading the opening chapter is as if you are reading Gone with the Wind, exactly same, it’s as if reading the same story albeit in a different setting. As you proceed with the story you find the similarities ending and the plot taking in an entirely different turn, in fact an interesting one. I would recommend reading it once. At that time, when I was reading the book, the story of our Indian born Harvard Sophomore’s book How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life…was in ne...

Mis-Readings

Today I had to go to a different building for some work. When I reached there I read a placard hanging at the lift door as "Life is not working" I smiled at the fact and started climbing the stairs. Now that's an innovative and an interesting way to tell that the lift is out of service. I kept thinking over the text. What must be the intention behind writing it that way. Maybe when you start climbing the stairs you realise its difficult to reach the top or you need to really slog to reach there. It tires you by the time you reach the top. And you expend most of yourself in trying to reach the top. The life seems to be gone out of you. Maybe that could be the reason. Anyways me couldn't think much coz me had reached my destination. I successfully completed my tasks. And was happily descending back the stairs when I remembered the notice and thought about taking another glance at the golden words. Viola, what I saw written was "Lift is not working" and not ...

"V" Day

Valentine's Day just went by as it had come...surprisingly around my place or the office there was no excitement. People just came as they generally come, did their work and went away. The culture team did organize some event but I didn't meet anyone from my team who attended that event. It was just another day which came and went away. But me though not romantic but had an eventful day experienced both sides of luck - bad luck and good luck. Firstly I woke up with the feeling that it was Thursday and I had loads of things to do by Friday. So, I spent the entire day slogging to finish the work in 1 day. I wanted to reach home early so that I could do house work too as my maid is ill. So I took the 5:30 bus . But fate had something else stored. It was another busy day with the traffic at peak. Midway our bus tyre got punctured and we had to de-board . But our lucky star was shining. We found the other route bus following us. We boarded that and got down at some stop closer to o...

Questions and Questions??????

Another boring day at work...dont know why I feel bored!!! Here begins my queries to self - Why am I bored? Why do I come to office if I feel bored? You know life has become so mechanical...come to office do some tasks which means nothing...just do them as a robot without using my brains. Why do I have to work like this? Why am I working like this? Btw, why do I work? To earn money, right. Yes maybe thats the main intention of working. Ok then what do I do with the money that I have earned? I spend it on reaching the office and reaching back home. Making official calls whenever I work from home, paying for my Internet facility... Ahhh I do wish to buy some books, movies, spend money on travels ...but where is the time to read books, watch movies, or Holidays for going out. I do buy books and movie CDs but they just lie around gathering dust. And I dont even have to time to wipe the dust. Actually I have the time but I simply dont feel like doing anything. Just sit and stare at the blan...

"Million Dollar Baby" - Amazing Movie

All those who have watched it would agree that its a masterpiece...no doubt about it...Everything about the movie is marvelous be it the acting, the direction, the story...simply everything. It actually swept the 2005 Academy Awards (Oscars); so I should keep my big mouth shut. But here's something that I would want to whisper.... What really left a mark on me was the character Maggie Fitzgerald (Hillary Swank), a 31-year old female (of my age) determined to become a professional boxer and she makes it at the end. With no one from her family supporting her (it was the opposite, she was supporting them) she scraped through with sheer determination. Her perseverance even wins over the hardened Frank Duhn or Frankie (Clint Eastwood) and he agrees to coach and even manages her professional career. At the end when she is at the rehabilitation center with no hope for living, she preserves her determination. There she confides to Frankie and requests him to help her end the life as she ...

"100 Years of Solitude" - My Opinion

Surprisingly my Manager presented me with 2 books (read lended ). Now don't ask me why, I presume either he found me well read or I needed to read well. Anyways, after a lot of follow up by him, I finally started to read the first book - 100 years of Solitude by Marquez. Somehow the look and feel didn't really appeal to me. I don't know some how I was wary of starting to read. Few of my friends who are real avid readers convinced me that it was worth a try. Anyways, me didn't stop there, did some research and when my research revealed that its among the best 100 books and everywhere Marquez and his works are talked about, i plunged into reading. Over a weekend and a few hours of Monday night (apart from spending time to watch 3 movies and do my entire weeks laundry which also includes ironing and Yup I don't have washing machine...not to mention the grocery, cooking and cleaning the house) I still managed to complete the entire 422 pages paperback publication. A...
