Fishy Business

Its sad....I recently got the aquarium as a gift and now Hasi has already died :( Hasi was the one always creating havoc...it uprooted the plants and chased Khushi all around...It used to push Khushi at a corner and not even let it come out to eat the food :( Last week when I entered my home there was a commotion going on and loads of leaves were scattered, this time some of them were nibbled also and they were darting around the aquarium with Hasi at the tail of Khushi. I had it enough and scolded them and asked them to stop everything right then...And in reply they stopped but then by late night Hasi had gone to a corner, I thought it might be sulking... anyways for a couple of days Hasi didn't move much from the corner and today morning didn't even eat the food otherwise its the first one to eat...:( When I came back now, I found it dead :( I am sorry Hasi...may the soul of Hasi rest in peace!

Its been raining here....raining and just raining...so me thought might as well share some quotes...so its raining quotes here... The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain. - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow I love walking in the rain, 'cause then no-one knows I'm crying. - Unknown Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man's growth without destroying his roots. - Frank Howard Clark Weather is a great metaphor for life - sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, and there's nothing much you can do about it but carry an umbrella.- Pepper Giardino Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain. - Author Unknown Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet. - Roger Miller A rainy day is the perfect time for a walk in the woods. - Rachel Carson It is best to read the weather forecast before praying for rain. - Mark Twain Rain showers my spirit and waters my soul. - Emily Logan Decens The way I see...

I read the book Man's Search for Meaning and found these inspiring quotes to share. Life is not primarily a quest for pleasure as Freud believed, or a quest for power, as Alfred Adler taught, but a quest for meaning and here are the quotes: We can discover meaning in life in three different ways: (1) by creating a work or doing a deed; (2) by experiencing a something or encountering someone; and (3) by the attitude we take toward unavoidable suffering. Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way. No man should judge unless he asks himself in absolute honesty whether in a similar situation he might not have done the same. Nietzsche's words, 'He who has a why to live can bear with almost any how .' Nietzsche's words,'That which does not kill me, makes me stronger.' No one has the right to do wrong even if the wrong has been done to ...

Man's Search for Meaning - An Inpiring and influential book

Most Influential Book....it really made me see things in a very different light and have urged me to evolve myself and instead of seeking happiness seek purpose of happiness. Each and every page teaches something new. It was a good experience reading this book and thankfully I own it too so I can reread it. Highly recommended!

eLearning Skills - Alan Clarke

I mistook this book for developing eLearning skills for the developers it was more for the students / learners who want to make use of ICT. As an eLearning Content Developer, we have been always suggested / recommended to keep in focus the learner learning styles, their skill sets and many more....the book also does the same to the learner that the content will be catering to your style all you need to do is to follow some guidelines. Was very nicely written and gave me loads of insights.

With Hasi and Khushi

Image
Well I got the bestest gift from obviously my friends - An aquarium :) with 2 fishy :) I have christened them as Hasi ( = Laughter) and Khushi ( = Happiness) and now my tag line goes I am with Hasi and Khushi :)

The Grey Zone

This one was based on the holocaust. It talked about the Komondos who were used by the Germans to dispose of the bodies after the gassing. Was extremely disturbing one...It simply shook me up to find out to what lengths humans could go to increase their life by a day or even to save a life. Be prepared before you watch this moving tale.

Antwone Fisher - Inspired by True Story

This was another moving tale of a young lad born in prison and having lost his father a few months loses his childhood to orphanage, foster parents, brutality, abuse, correctional homes, till he finds himself in the Navy and then a visit to the Psychiatric. In spite of everything he still stands strong and he even forgives his mother for abandoning him and meets up with his father's family. Even though the movie is a bit slow and stretches at times, its worth watching.

1. If you could turn back the hands of time to correct one wrongdoing, what event would you choose and why? I cant come to 1 coz there are loads of them I would like to correct a hell lot of actions of mine....I wish this was possible! 2. Are you one for tradition? If so, what traditions do you strongly believe in? If not, what makes tradition hypocritical? Well if the traditions suits me I carry on with that if it doesn't I hate it! 3. You were taking part in an event and you had to crossplay, who would you crossplay as and why? Well me didn't knew this word googled it and through wiki came to know that it means dressing up like the opposite gender...well I am lost as to like whom would I dress up :(! 4. If you only had one day left to live, how would you spend your last day? Would you be tempted to live fatally if you knew you were to die the next day, and if so, what extreme measures would you take? No nothing extreme on the contrary would want to say good bye to all and see...

Painful Decisions by Mary Larkins

This book was nicely written but it was missing something....difficult to exactly place what was missing. In fact it started with a situation or something happened and then proceeded to put us in the shoes of all the parties involved and shared their perspectives and the reason why they reacted so. Very close to real life...nothing to do with fairy tales. Its a story about a family 4 kids and their parents. How each one has to pay the price of their own faults and the family. Every individual has to suffer the consequence of their actions. The background also included the enmity between Catholics and protestant and hard times how the family manages to make ends meet. Ok read!

The NLP Coach by Ian MacDermott

This ones real good one. It talks about NLP Tools and Coaching and describes dimensions of success and how to concentrate to improve key areas of life. It uses real life examples to describe the situations and then analysis with NLP what is going right and wrong. It also gives some food for thought: Beliefs are theories and not facts Take time to celebrate your success instead of simply moving the goal post Count your blessings Avoid I am.... I never.... I always as they are unchangeable phrases Have goals in life but must have purpose...it is an expression of self that grows from past and relates present to the future...they even help contrast them by saying a goal is to buy a new car and the purpose is to travel freely :) Recommended read!

Ice Age 3 - Cool Movie :)

Oh I loved this one...the part 2 was a little disappointing after the terrific 1st one but this one was quite good. The best part of the movie again is Scrat (the squirrel) This time he is smitten by the beauty - Scratte and its fun to watch him fall in love with Scratte rather than his acorn for a change :) Sid is as best as he can be :). This time he gets 3 Tyrannosaurus eggs with the intent of raising them and falls into trouble. Manfred is angered by Sid and shouts "After we rescue Sid, I'm going to kill him." :) Watch it its fun!

Now that you're back - A L Kennedy

Its a collection of short stories again :) but not all of the stories are good....the ones worth mentioning are: A perfect Possession, the first story talks about the parents and child. It begins with "It hurts when we love somebody, because loving is a painful thing, that is its nature." How difficult it is to care for a child and still feel loved to the child even if the child is inconsiderate and has lack of thought till they grow a little. Christine is too good but too lengthy. It should have ended when we discover that the falls which she suffered when she was in school was because she could hear the thoughts. She was trying to live with the gift. But it went on and on and lost the essence. The story that stands out is Mixing with the Folks at home....its chilling...its written as a letter to a daughter explaining the gal about who is her father - serial killing - and murder of her biological father and all this in a way as if stating something like how do you tie your s...

This one is going to be an update on my 101 in 1001 ... Getting wet in the rains was fun till the time I was getting wet but once it stopped pouring it was no fun being soaked and feeling cold :( Walk wherever I go, I tried this one and I thought that I may not be able to do the entire walk but surprisingly did this pretty well. The walk took about 3 hours ( a little more) but I didn't go very far from home. To keep my energy levels, I had Cold Coffee, Sweet Corn and juice and by the time I returned I felt that I was so full that I could hardly walk. I am on with my 7 days 7 books....its pretty tiring, but very stimulating and am happy when I get to finish the books. I am combining short stories, fiction, educational, biographies and so its fun. I have started with my Thank You list also. There are so many different ways to speak the same word in different languages that its getting difficult for me to recall all of them. So I am trying to find ways to recall them. I have stuck the...

7 days 7 books

Image
This is something I am doing and and I enjoy as its stimulating and tiring too but once you achieve it, makes you feel elated. All you have to do is to list 7 books and within 7 days finish them. You can post reviews of the books too. Tip: Choose from fictions, quick reads, educational series, short stories, biographies, a mix and match of huge volumes of books and small pocket books. Leave your link in the comments section, if you have joined.

Iris Murdoch As I knew Her

Sadly this book is more of a memoir of Wilson than a biography of Iris. He is into ranting and is taking out his grudges against JOB (Iris's hubby) and his ex wife and the world in general. Moreover his writing style is not very friendly and readable. If you are looking for a biography of Iris then its not the right one. :(

Natasha and Other Stories by David Bezmozgis

This one was interesting. I normally read short stories from in between and after I read Natasha and then another I realized its all interlinked. It talks about the Berman family narrated through their son Mark. Begins from when Mark was 7 till he reaches adolescent. The author David is himself a Jewish Russian immigrated to Toronto, Canada and so the stories maybe a bit biographical as it retains the feeling having been there and done that. Very nicely written and well paced too.

Short stories

I read 2 books - Twenty one stories by Graham Greene Upper East and by Ruth Pravar Jabwala I simply happened to come across these books and I thought let me try some short story for a change. Although both the books didn't do much justice or maybe I don't have the level of understanding :( Some of Greene's stories I couldnt make any sense of them but I loved a few of them specially The Destructors which left a bitter taste, fraudster meets another :) was good The stories of Jabvala started off really well, the characters easily identifiable, but the ending didnt make any sense to me most of them except a few Farid and Farida.... Ok read when you have nothing better to do.

Some Quotes on what I am best at :) Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired. - Jules Renard I like the word "indolence." It makes my laziness seem classy. - Bern Williams All of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane, the automobile, the computer - says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness . - Mark Kennedy Efficiency is intelligent laziness . - David Dunham Some folks can look so busy doing nothin' that they seem indispensable. - Kin Hubbard Failure is not our only punishment for laziness: there is also the success of others. - Jules Renard Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy. - Edgar Bergen Laziness travels so slowly that poverty soon overtakes him. - Benjamin Franklin You can't imagine what a pleasure this complete laziness is to me: not a thought in my brain- you might send a ball rolling through it! - Leo Tolstoy Whenever there is a hard job t...
