Fact is stranger than fiction!!

Yes I realize this....just now received a mailer stating the demise of one of our classmates...It was the same guy whose handwriting analysis I had done...and we had a nice chat together about work and class and study....but it is so...may his soul rest in peace! For some time now, actually its been many times before, but recently its been more in my thoughts about what happens when a person dies and leaves behind the blogs, mails and all Internet identity...I was just wondering that I write a blog and I die and then will people following it wonder what happened why are write ups not coming...Even though the fact is that no one follows my blog but I still wondered...After my demise maybe someone accidentally drops by and checks the blog and then wants to drop again and then again but sees no new posts so do they wonder - the author is dead or has abandoned? I have come across some of the blogs with posts dated years ago but I never went back to them so I don't know if the blog is ...

Freedom's Land

I picked this book, because on its cover it had this pretty lady with a young lad and the title Freedom's land attracted me. It is a great book. I enjoyed every bit of it....in fact I read it in flat 8 hours. Didn't even budge from my seat. As soon as I read a few pages, I knew it was a winner and then cooked and ate an enormous meal and sat perched with the book. She write amazingly, uses simple English and short sentences but that keeps the pace of the story intact. Story is about a scheme run by the Australian Government to provide land to all ex servicemen in Australia and hordes of people from England come for it. The brochures talk about dream homes and farms and cows and ....but they all are in for a surprise. How the families who reach there put up with the failure of the government and try their best with the help of locals to start their dream life - even if it means building their own dreams. The characters are all real ones, someone we might know from our past or ne...

I love The Stupendous Man!! Did you guess it? Well yes, its the famous quotes of Calvin :) Reality continues to ruin my life. A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day. Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless. Life's disappointments are harder to take when you don't know any swear words. Its no use! Everybody gets good enemies except me. What's the point of wearing your favorite rocketship underpants if nobody ever asks to see 'em? As a math atheist, I should be excused from this. This one's tricky. You have to use imaginary numbers, like eleventeen ... I'm learning real skills that I can apply throughout the rest of my life ... Procrastinating and rationalizing. I have a hammer! I can put things together! I can knock things apart! I can alter my environment at will and make an incredible din all the while! Ah, it's great to b...

A Period of Adjustments

I love Dirk Bogarde's works and this being his first fiction that I have read. The story is the usual - a divorcee coming to terms with his brother's death, his playing the dad figure to his son, his infatuation, and his love interest and all set out in French Summer. But how Dirk Bogarde manages to throw life in the cliche tale is an art that he has pioneered. The sons character, 9 year old boy, really stands out and one stands to live with the boy coming to terms with his parents divorce and child abuse and French. Although I felt he overdid with the erotic encounters and I simply skimmed through those sections and the ending sans those its a winner. Liked it.

A summer of secrets - Unputdownable!!

Breezy, sweet, witty, romantic, adorable, fun, and heart breaks packed into some 500 pages. The dialogues are too good after a long time I have read something with sharp and witty exchanges. (Last I read was in of course Love Story :)) Once you begin, you hardly notice how time flies and you are engulfed into the story of Hope, Adam, Julie, Logan....all likable and easy to relate characters. They have all been through with what we have been through or going through. The story revolves around Hope and how she, one of the few survivors of a plane crash, copes with her post traumatic stress. And along with her fight for surviving and getting back to 'Normal' the others join in - her best friends and house mates Adam and Julie, her shrink Tim, her neighbor Logan and others...each coming victorious at the end. Hope a drifter of jobs who cant hold to a single job and has switched 16 times. She has been fired or made herself fired from all. Adam who is good at his job or so what it se...

The Book Boy - Another Quick Read

This book by Joanna Trollepe is part of Quick Reads. Its a 95 paged book and pretty good. I borrowed this book from the library and finished it within 45 minutes while reaching home :). Its a pretty quick read. If you feel wretched, miserable, and lack self esteem everyone else will also make you feel the same. A mother of two teenage kids was bullied by her husband, kids, her boss, and even by the friend of her teenage son. Her only offense being that she cant read and write. A walk out by her friend gets her realize she needs to take things in her hand. And she does it all by herself with the help of strangest friends as her support. Its never too late to change.

Landscapes of Memory - Ruth Kluger

Its been compared to Diary of Annie Frank....but sorry to say so far whatever I have read it has no where touched upon the great book. It feels like its more of rantings and rantings...She is taking out personal grudges rather than giving us some true landscapes of memory. :( I tried to go through it but finally gave up after odd 50 pages couldn't bear her grudges towards her parents, friends, living beings in general.

I subscribed to the quotes related to the book The Secret....and here they are for sharing... Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen. - Ralph Waldo Emerson Don't limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as you mind lets you. What you believe, you can achieve. -Mary Kay Ash "I can't do it" never yet accomplished anything; "I will try" has performed wonders. -George P. Burnham Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action. -Napoleon Hill Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined. - Henry David Thoreau You say I started out with practically nothing, but that isn't correct. We all start with all there is. It's how we use it that makes things possible. - Henry Ford You can do it if you believe you can. - Napoleon Hill Except and expect positive things a...
