Monsoon Track (Oops its Trek!!)

Once again the gang of 6 leave early (very early) out of the warm blankets to be close to nature. Half sleepily we pile ourselves along with our bags into a Scorpio.

But we never regret leaving the confines of comfort. We are cheered by the green expanse , cloud laden mountains, and placid waters! It was almost drizzling all along the route and for once rain didn’t dampen our spirits.


Our first stop - Dhabha for hot Aloo Parathas and Tea. Refreshed we sped further towards our destination. Well we selected Malshej Ghats, 130 KMs, a paradise surrounded by mint green mountains with cascading waterfalls. Its nature at its best. And the best time to visit the place is, you guessed it right August and September and how can we choose any other time.

Well before we reached Malshej, we stopped over at Narayangaon - famous for its vineyards. The wine shop in itself is beautiful with a décor to watch for.

After that we headed to Malshej Ghats. The road leading to the waterfalls is flanked by river on one side and fields and lush green mountains on the other side. With monsoon season, the clouds makes the entire landscape mesmerizing.


Well the magic of the fresh nature starts working and you cant stop feeling thrilled anticipating the treat that’s in store for you ahead. And you are not to be disheartened - for its fabulous. The rocks jutting over the roads with water falling. You cant escape getting drenched in the falls. And you are not alone. Groups of revelers can be spotted having fun and before you know you are engulfed by them and you become a part of them.

BTW you gonna spot these Harry Potter / Lord of the rings creatures when you start nearing the falls. Well they are the workers clearing out fallen debris. Hmmm they really look a perfect pair at work!!

We bathed amidst the scenic beauty and then had hot cuppa of tea and Vada Pav. Refueled we spent some time over looking the valley. After that we got out of our wet clothes and had hot lunch. Having lunch at that particular hotel was an adventure by itself. You could hear vessels going bang bang and the disinterested waiters trying hard to make you diet. "Sorry this is not available"…If you insist they then suggest some other dish. Now they didn’t know that they were waiting upon the Chindiya Adventurers - who don’t put their foot down for anything. So whether they liked it or not had to serve us.

After the meal, we went to the Shivneri Fort. This ones a famous fort - because it houses the birthplace of Shivaji. So we headed towards it. On the way we stopped at one of the Lord Ganesh temple. I am gonna skip on the small detour we had to take because our driver missed a turn.

The climb to the fort although is easy as there are stairs but is ardous nevertheless. We passed through 7 doors to reach the place where Shivaji was born. Sadly except the breathtaking view of the valley there is nothing much to look for. But still it was fun.
